A special transportation service for transfer from/to Malpensa and Linate international airports has been organized for IALCCE'08 participants. The transfer from the airports to Varenna will be available on June 9-10th, 2008. At your arrival, a dedicated person will be waiting for you at the airports. The transfer from Varenna to the airports will be available on June 15-16th. This transportation service is intended door-to-door from Malpensa and Linate airports to the following hotels:

Hotel Royal Victoria, Varenna
Hotel Du Lac, Varenna
Horel Villa Cipressi, Varenna
Hotel Monte Codeno, Varenna

For the guests of Grand Hotel Victoria in Menaggio, the transportation service is provided only from the airports to the ferry boat station in Varenna. After arrival in this station, it will be necessary to take a ferry to Menaggio. Tickets and reservations for the ferry are not included in this transportation service. Please contact the Grand Hotel Victoria in Menaggio to arrange a private transportation from Varenna to Menaggio. Public transportation is also available to get Varenna. Varenna can be reached by train in about one hour from Milan Central Railway Station. This station can be reached by shuttle bus in about 30 to 60 minutes from the main international airports (Malpensa, Linate, Orio al Serio). Detailed information about the public transportation system is provided below.
 

1. FROM THE MAIN INTERNATIONAL AIRPORTS TO MILAN CENTRAL RAILWAY STATION

From Milan Malpensa Airport
The Malpensa Shuttle Bus service connects the Malpensa airport with the Milan Central railway station in about 50 minutes (Timetable). The platform of Malpensa Shuttle Bus is located just in front Exit 5 at the arrivals level of Terminal 1. The cost of a one way ticket is 6 euros. Tickets can be purchased on board at no extra cost (payment by cash in euros).

From Milan Linate Airport
The Star Fly Bus service connects the Linate airport with the Milan Central railway station in about 30 minutes (Timetable). The platform of Star Fly Bus is located just in front the main exit at the arrivals level. The cost of a one way ticket is 4 euros. Tickets can be purchased on board at no extra cost (payment by cash in euros).

From Bergamo Orio al Serio Airport
The Orio Shuttle Bus service connects the Orio al Serio airport with the Milan Central railway station in about 60 minutes (Timetable). The platform of Orio Shuttle Bus is located just in front the main exit at the arrivals level. The cost of a one way ticket is 8 euros. Tickets can be purchased on board at no extra cost (payment by cash in euros).
 

2. FROM MILAN CENTRAL RAILWAY STATION TO VARENNA RAILWAY STATION

Varenna can be reached by train from Milan Central Railway Station in approximately one hour with a direct train (Timetable). Take a train with final destination SONDRIO or TIRANO. These trains will make several stops, including at the VARENNA ESINO station, that is your destination. The cost of a one way ticket is 7.45 euros for first class, and 4.95 euros for second class. Tickets must be purchased at the sale offices of the railway station and validated in one of the yellow punching machines located at the beginning of the platforms. It is strongly suggested to buy in advance also a ticket for return from Varenna to Milan, since sale offices are not available at the Varenna railway station. Please note that tickets purchased on board, or not properly validated, can be subjected to an extra fee up to 50 euros.
 

3. FROM VARENNA RAILWAY STATION TO YOUR HOTEL IN VARENNA

Most of the hotels in Varenna are located within a walking distance from the railway station (see the map of Varenna). However, the route is climbing and if you have a heavy luggage it is suggested to use a taxi cab. Taxi stand is in front of the railway station. However, since Varenna is a quite small village, it may be possible that a taxi cab is not directly available on site at your arrival.
